championsThe impact of a football mentor transcends the game itself. Players often see their coaches as mentors and role models. The lessons learned on the field translate into valuable life skills.
The Merrylands Soccer Football Club has a rich history that dates back to its formation in 1958. It all began when a group of passionate soccer enthusiasts from Merrylands, came together with a shared vision of creating a soccer team to compete in the Metropolitan District competition.
Led by the talented Joe Grubba, the club started with a senior team that participated in the Sydney-wide competition. In 1959, Merrylands expanded its soccer program to include junior teams. This marked the beginning of Merrylands’ commitment to fostering the growth and development of young soccer players across Western Sydney
The club faced a turning point in 1963 when a dispute arose regarding the use of over-aged players or “ring-ins” in some teams. True to his principles, the club’s president, Joe Grubba, decided to part ways with the club at the end of the season. However, his love for the sport and his desire to make a difference never waned.
In 1972, Joe’s passion and determination led him to resurrect the Merrylands Soccer Football Club. Since its revival, the Merrylands Soccer Football Club has continued to thrive and grow. Today, the club boasts an impressive participation of 60 teams, demonstrating the enduring passion for the sport within the Merrylands community. The club actively competes in the Granville & Districts Association, leaving a lasting impact on the local soccer scene.
